Star Wars legend Mark Hamill might have sacrificed his life to save the Resistance in Star Wars: The Last Jedi but Luke Skywalker is returning in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and it as it turns out, the actor also wanted any and all surviving Star Wars actors to return in the film culminating the entire Skywalker saga.
Not only is The Rise of Skywalker going to feature Hamill’s return, but it also promises the appearance of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi’s Billy Dee Williams. The actor is set to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian, a suave smuggler that Williams hasn’t played ever since Return of the Jedi.
Speaking in an interview with EPK to talk about The Rise of Skywalker, Hamill talked about William’s upcoming return in The Rise of Skywalker, saying that the actor deserves to be in the final installment of the sequel trilogy.
Hamill is happy that he gets to appear in a film with his old friend again, describing Dee as the “smoothest” guy he knows.
“I’m so glad Billy Dee is in the final installment because he deserves it. I thought, ‘Anybody that’s still around — no matter how prominent or obscure — should come back. I would love that,’” Hamill tells the publication, “But especially Billy Dee. We were unknowns when we were cast, and when they cast Billy Dee in Empire, he was like a big movie star! He’s just the smoothest [person]. He’s almost like an old school, 1930’s matinee idol. He’s just a really wonderful guy and fun to be around. And he saved my life in Empire, so I owe him that.”
We’re excited to see Williams return too. The actor hasn’t appeared in any other Star Wars movie other than Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. We can’t wait to see more of Lando and his suave charisma in The Rise of Skywalker. It’s going to be exciting seeing Lando in the Millennium Falcon again, like the return of an old friend.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
