Lucasfilm Reportedly Hoping to Cast Lars Mikkelson as Star Wars’ Live-Action Thrawn

The Skywalker saga may have come to an end with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, however, Lucasfilm has yet to share its plans for the future of the galaxy far, far away. Despite the growing clamor for Star Wars news, the studio has been keeping mum about the movies it has planned with The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

Despite Lucasfilm's silence, the Star Wars rumor mill has been keeping busy, and for the past few months, there's been talk that the studio may very well bring Star Wars Legends fan-favorite Grand Admiral Thrawn into live-action.

Reports say that the popular Star Wars Rebels character may very well appear in the second season of Star Wars: The Mandalorian or in upcoming Star Wars movies as the franchise's new lead villain. Now, according to a new report by Disney insider Daniel Richtman, Disney is taking interest in casting Lars Mikkelson as the Chiss Imperial military commander.

The older brother of Doctor Strange and The Hunt star Mads Mikkelsen, Lars Mikkelson is a Danish actor known for his work in the third series of Sherlock and in Netflix series House of Cards. He also voiced Thrawn in Star Wars Rebels.

Lars Mikkelsen would be a great fit for the role. Not only does he have experience playing the part in DisneyXD's popular Star Wars animated series, but he's also proven to be an experienced actor. Lars was nominated for the Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement, Voice Acting in an Animated feature Production back in 2017. Plus, he has the cheekbones for the role. Mikkelsen would make an intimidating Thrawn.

Let's wait and see whether Mikkelsen really does get cast as live-action Thrawn.

Star Wars Rebels is streaming on Disney+.
