It looks like Star Wars fans can finally get the entire Skywalker saga on a previously Disney+ exclusive format.
According to a report by The Verge, Lucasfilm is making all of the eight Skywalker saga entries available for purchase in individual packs or as part of a box set. A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, The Return of the Jedi, Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, and The Force Awakens can now be purchased individually on 4K UHD.
The movies can also be purchased on Lucasfilm's Skywalker saga box set. The box set release will also include Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a film that wasn't included in the studio's roundup because it had previously released a 4K UHD release. Lucasfilm's critically-acclaimed Star Wars spinoff movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, won't be part of the box set, however, the studio says that fans can purchase the movie individually.
This is great news for Star Wars fans. The 4K UHD copies of the original Star Wars trilogy, the prequel trilogy, the first entry in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy, and Rogue One, were only available to fans that subscribed to Disney+.
The biggest selling point of the 4K UHD format is the restoration of the original films and the prequel trilogy. It also comes with the Dolby Atmos-enabled sound quality, something that was previously exclusive to Disney's new streaming service.
Now, thanks to this new release, the Disney+ exclusive is going to be made available to the public. It's a pretty good selling point for Disney and Lucasfilm, one which fans may want to take advantage of if they want the restored copies of the original and prequel trilogy.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set for release in HD and 4K Ultra HD on March 17. The film is also set for release on Blu-ray and DVD on March 31.
