Lord Of The Rings Series By Amazon Expected To Premiere Around 2021

It looks like Amazon is working hard to bring its new Lord of the Rings television series to the small screen.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jennifer Salke, the president of Amazon Studios, decided to give fans a short update on the upcoming television adaptation of JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings books.

According to Salke, the studio is currently speaking with three or four different groups of writers for the series and there have been a quite a number of meetings about the series' material and its scope.

We are currently talking to writers. I have sat with three or four different groups of writers," Salke explained. "When we announced it, many agents called and with clients and British writers have come calling. There have been a lot of informational meetings about the material and about the scope of what we can do."

Co-produced by Amazon Studios, Warner Brothers, and the JRR Tolkien Estate, the series is given an estimated 2021 release.

"It'll be in production in two years; [on the air in] 2021 is the hope. But there are other people who wish it was 2020," Salke said.

Apparently, one of the rules put in the series licensing agreement was that Amazon would put the series in active development for two years or else the rights of the Lord of the Rings series would return to the estate. Guess the Tolkien estate really wants to make sure that Amazon makes a series that's worth it.

The Lord of the Rings series doesn't have a release date yet but we'll let everyone know as soon as we get word.
