It might sound strange, but somehow trolls online are pinning Venom's negative reviews on Lady Gaga. Venom might be set to release later this Friday, but now that the film's made its global premiere in Westwood, Los Angeles with a handful of screenings for the press, the embargo for early film reviews has finally been lifted.
Reactions to the movie have finally made their way online, and most have been veering on the negative side. While some blame it entirely on the film itself, Buzzfeed reports that trolls on the internet have been pinning these negative Venom reviews on the music icon, Lady Gaga. The actress' critically-acclaimed movie with Bradley Cooper, A Star Is Born, is set to premiere this weekend.
Fighting head-to-head with Venom at the box office, some have come to the conclusion that all these negative reactions to Tom Hardy's first Symbiote Standalone might actually be the result of an imagined campaign to bring the film down.
While the idea of Lady Gaga manipulating Venom's reviews seems rather farfetched, some say that bot-like posts bashing Venom in favor of Lady Gaga's upcoming movie.
The alleged bot post reads:
"Just got out of a Venom preview. Thankfully it was free. Worst two hours of my life. I will be taking my life to see Lady GaGa's new movie A Star Is Born with Bradley Cooper on Friday. Their song Shallow is great."
There has been quite a number of these posts online, and the numbers have made some Marvel fans suspicious of the Lady Gaga fandom's motives. Buzzfeed was told by one Lady Gaga fan account that the fanbase was actually really making an effort to put down Venom.
Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that the musician has a hand at this campaign against Venom. What we do know is that the bots do exist and that fans should try to be careful, discerning actual reviews from actual people between tweets from bots.
