Jar Jar Binks Is Trending On Twitter And Star Wars Fans Don’t Know Why

It might have been more than a decade since Jar Jar Bink's last appearance on the big screen, but it looks like Star Wars most contentious (and often most hated) Gungan is making waves online.

According to a report by Movie Web, Jar Jar Binks has been trending on Twitter, and Star Wars fans have no idea why. Sure, it's been a bit quiet with Lucasfilm keeping a low profile while it continues wrapping Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's secrets close to its chest, but there have been a few Star Wars reports here and there. Star Wars fans couldn't possibly be that bored to make Jar Jar viral on social media again.

The site tries to explain Twitter's sudden interest in Jar Jar Binks by pointing at a tweet made by Star Wars legend Mark Hamill. Posting on the social media site, the Luke Skywalker star decided to share a photo of a game that generates your Star Wars fate by allowing you to choose a phrase connected to your birth month and by combining it with a Star Wars character connected to the first letter of your name.

In the game, J is connected to Jar Jar Binks. It's possible that Hamill's followers with names starting with the letter J may have helped in the Gungan's rise to fame today.

That, or maybe because the Jar Jar Binks tweet of ESPN writer Ryan McGee has also been gaining traction online.

"Jar Jar Binks trending because people are asking "Why is Jar Jar Binks trending?" is the most Jar Jar Binks thing ever," McGee wrote on Twitter.

The post has gained over 8000 likes and over 2000 responses. Sure, the tweet might not have been the start of Jar Jar Bink's little climb to social media fame today, but it sure might have helped.

Lucasfilm's latest film, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, premieres on December 20, 2019.
