Janelle Monae Would Like to Play Marvel’s New Storm

Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, rapper, and actress Janelle Monae has decided to throw her name in the ring for Marvel's new Storm.

Ever since Disney acquired 21^st Century Fox and the studio's film and television assets, Marvel fans have been itching to see the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool finally make their way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the characters that fans have been itching to see in the MCU has been the X-Men powerhouse Storm.

Though there have been reports saying that Marvel has been considering legendary artist Beyonce for the part, Marvel fans have quite a number of other names in mind. Now, Monae has decided to add her name to the roster.

Speaking in an interview with Empire Magazine to help promote her upcoming movie Antebellum, the singer was asked about potential roles in comic book film franchises. Though there haven't been any reports of castings, the actress was quick to point out that she's always dreamt of playing Storm.

"I definitely have thrown it out there," Monae said told the entertainment news outlet, "One of my dreams has always been to play Storm. I don't know if she comes in Black Panther, but it would be a dream to have her in it. I don't know where they are with that. A lot of women have played Storm and they've done an exceptional job, and I would love to be in that line of artists and get to do Storm justice."

Unfortunately, for Monae and many Marvel fans, Marvel Studios has yet to announce its plans to integrate the X-Men and the rest of Fox's mutant characters into the MCU. There have been rumors, yes, but nothing really official.

It would be interesting to have Storm appear in Black Panther 2 though – after all, the powerful mutant has long since been in a relationship with T'Chall in the comics.

Phase 4 of the MCU is set to begin when Black Widow premieres on November 6, 2020.
