Janelle Monae Rocks as the MCU’s New Storm

Yesterday, word came out that Hidden Figures star Janelle Monae was interested in playing the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of the X-Men hero, Storm.

Speaking in an interview with Empire Magazine, the singer, songwriter, and actress revealed her desire to be cast as Storm, going as far as speaking with director Ryan Coogler about playing the mutant in Black Panther 2.

Taking note of how Monae threw her name into the ring of contenders for Storm, popular fan artist BossLogic decided to share an art piece imagining the actress as Ororo Munroe. The results are phenomenal: Marvel would do great casting Monae as storm.

In BossLogic's art piece, fans get to see Monae as the 1980's version of Storm with her bangle earings and her fierce mohawk. It's also a call to the 2010's resurgence of the classic look which was brought back by Uncanny X-Force writer Sam Humphries.

There's been a lot of talk about Marvel's plans for Storm the past few months. There were rumors running up and down the mill saying that Marvel was hoping to cast Beyonce as the weather-bending mutant – something which fans didn't take too well, unfortunately. Beyonce might be a legend, however, fans have some contention with the artist's acting skills and her light skin color. There are many who would love to see Storm as the dark-skinned queen that she is, and while Beyonce is the daughter of an African American man and a woman of Louisiana Creole descent, fans seem to want someone darker.

Let's wait and see what Marvel has in mind for the MCU.

Phase 4 of the MCU is set to begin when Black Widow premieres on November 6, 2020.
