James Gunn Reveals Working on Another DC Comics Property Before Taking The Suicide Squad

There might have been a whole lot of surprise when Warner Brothers announced that it had hired Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn had been hired to helm The Suicide Squad for the DC Extended Universe, but it seems like the Marvel filmmaker actually worked on another DC Comics property before taking on the DC movie.

Gunn has always been active on social media, and in a recent question and answer segment on Instagram, the filmmaker revealed another surprising detail about his career – he had actually worked on another DC Comics project before taking on Warner Brothers' Suicide Squad reboot sequel (via Heroic Hollywood).

"There was only really one other IP I did any work on at all (just to see how it flowed for me personally). Other than that, it was just considering if any of them were right for me. TSS just flowed like nothing before for me," the director told his followers on Instagram.

Gunn didn't reveal that much about this mystery project. We can't really tell whether the property was an animated series, a live-action series, or a movie. We can't even tell whether the project is ever going to see the light of day now that Gunn is working on The Suicide Squad for DC – though the odds seem pretty low considering that Gunn isn't actively talking about the project.

There's a lot of excitement growing for The Suicide Squad. Starring John Cena, Jai Courtney, Margot Robbie, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Joaquin Cosio, Sean Gunn, Taika Waititi, Idris Elba, Peter Capaldi, Pete Davidson, Storm Reid, and so many, many others, the film's cast is nothing short of a powerhouse.

The Suicide Squad is slated to premiere on August 6, 2021.
