Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Production Has Been Reportedly Delayed

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a quite a toll on the entertainment industry. Not only has the outbreak of the novel coronavirus shut down cinemas and delayed the release of major blockbuster movies like Mulan, Black Widow, and Wonder Woman 1984, but the pandemic also shut down the production of highly anticipated film and television projects for studios around the world.

Though governments have slowly begun opening up, studios have been announcing another round of delays, and many suspect that Marvel may be forced to push back its release calendar yet again because of the pandemic. There's been talk that Black Widow may be delayed to 2021, forcing all of Marvel's Phase 4 lineup backwards as well.

Though Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has yet to be given a release date, there are new reports saying that James Gunn's next cosmic installment will be "significantly delayed.

According to Bounding Into Comics, a "well-known member" of the WDWMagic forums has leaked information saying that Disney has started considering the option of live-action CGI for future movies and projects after the significant delay of the production of GOTG 3.

"Specific to Walt Disney World, the interesting information is that due to Guardians of the Galaxy 3 film shooting being significantly delayed, the company is interested in using 'Cosmic Rewind' as a proof of concept if they are unable to get the coaster film work completed by the actors in person on time," the leak reads.

This delay in the production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 doesn't really sound that much of a surprise. Sure, Gunn may have wrapped production on The Suicide Squad back in March, however, the pandemic has been holding off work on other major film and television projects.

Let's wait and see whether the entertainment industry will be able to weather out this new challenge proffered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Phase 4 of the MCU begins with the release of Black Widow on November 6, 2020.
