Last week, The Falcon and Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie opened up about his thoughts about Marvel Studios' efforts to increase diversity and representation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the actor acknowledges has been taking steps, forward, Mackie thinks that Marvel has a long way to go to become truly progressive.
Now, Marvel's Agents of Shield Ghost Rider star Gabriel Luna has decided to add to the discussion, echoing Mackie's criticism of the lack of representation in the MCU.
Taking to Twitter, Luna expressed the same opinion, pointing out how Marvel even failed to develop a Ghost Rider series that would allow the franchise to have a Mexican-American lead.
"Amen @AnthonyMackie. To think we were right on the launchpad with Ghost Rider and still couldn't get it made. An opportunity lost to have a Mexican-American lead in a world where films with Latino leads make up less than 3%," Luna wrote in his post sharing a Variety article talking about Mackie's opinion on diversity and representation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Luna delivered a strong version of Ghost Rider during the fourth season of Marvel's Agents of Shield. Fans were hoping that the actor would go on to star in his own series. Unfortunately, Hulu decided against the project for reasons we have yet to know.
We can only hope that Marvel makes an even greater effort to offer more space to people of color and to women in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
