Earlier this month, it was Martin Scorsese who decided to go against the Marvel franchise. This time, it looks like Fantastic Four director Josh Trank has decided to take a swipe at Marvel, saying that The Irishman has more “humanity and truth” than every movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Taking to Twitter, Fantastic Four director Josh Trank decided to make a jab at Marvel after beginning to watch Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman earlier today. The crime film by the Taxi Driver director just recently made its way to Netflix, and Trank just couldn’t help but tweet his reaction to the opening of the movie.

According to the filmmaker, the first five minutes of the Martin Scorsese movie had “more humanity and truth and cinematic intrigue” in it than every “Marvel movie combined.” We would share the post with readers here, however, it seems like the tweet can no longer be found. Luckily, it seems like ComicBook.com still has a copy of the post which you can check here.

Trank’s post has riled the Marvel fanbase. There’s been a lot of responses to the Fantastic Four director’s post – some in agreement, and some in vehement opposition. Despite all of the posts disagreeing with Trank, the filmmaker continued to take his stand, saying that fans shouldn’t try to talk to him about “film history, film appraisal, art, professional risks, personal growth, and/ or understanding fairness to films/art/self-expression” because according to the director “real film lovers understand and fux with me.”

It looks like Trank really is convinced that The Irishman is so much better than the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To each his own really. We can’t force Trank to love Marvel movies. The director has to come to terms with that on his own.

Phase 4 of the MCU begins when Black Widow premieres on May 1, 2020.
