Disney Is Sticking With George Lucas’ Star Wars Special Edition Changes

It looks like Disney is set on keeping the changes that George Lucas made to the original trilogy when he made the special edition releases of the first three Star Wars movies.

Star Wars: A New Hope was nothing short of a success for George Lucas, however, despite all of its acclaims, the Star Wars creator felt that a few things in his films could be improved once technology finally caught up with his imagination. Eventually, Lucas decided to make the Star Wars special edition changes.

While Disney could have reversed these changes when it purchased Lucasfilm back in 2012, the Mickey Mouse House has done nothing o the sort. Now, it seems like Star Wars is actually endorsing the changes that George Lucas' Special Editions made.

StarWars.com just recently released a preview page from Marc Sumerak's upcoming Star Wars novel, Star Wars: The Secrets of the Jedi, and in one chapter dubbed "Light Force Abilities," we see a section for Spirits that has Christensen's version of Anakin Skywalker's Force Ghost standing right next to the Force Ghosts and Yoda and Obi-Wan just like he did in the Special Editions Return of the Jedi DVD.

Of course, this shouldn't really come as a surprise to fans. Disney can't really undo the changes that George Lucas made to the franchise. However, the Mickey Mouse House could have made a few tweaks here and there. They could have tweaked the image in Sumerak's novel, for instance. Guess the changes are going to be cannon from now on.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
