Chris Evans May Retire As Marvel’s Captain America To Play “More Relatable” Roles

It looks like Chris Evan stint as Marvel's Captain America may soon come to an end.

Though Evans has cemented himself into the Marvel Cinematic Universe like the rest of his Avengers co-stars, it seems like the Hollywood celebrity plans to hang up his shield right after he finishes his contract which ends with the two Avengers: Infinity War films.

Speaking with Esquire, Evans discloses his plans for the future and hints out on his retirement as Captain America.

"Settling in on the couch, he groans. Evans explains that he's hurting all over because he just started his workout routine the day before to get in shape for the next two Captain America films. The movies will be shot back to back beginning in April. After that, no more red- white-and-blue costume for the thirty-five-year-old. He will have fulfilled his contract."

Though fans know that Evans was offered a nine-picture contract back in 2010, it turns out that Evans managed to haggle with Marvel and whittle the deal down to six, the last two being the two-part Avengers: Infinity War movies. During the interview Evans compares Steve Rogers to the character he plays in his upcoming film Gifted, and it seems like the Marvel star has fallen in love with playing someone "more relatable."

"With Steve Rogers," Evans says, "even though you're on a giant movie with a huge budget and strange costumes, you're still on a hunt for the truth of the character." That said, "with Adler, it's nice to play someone relatable. I think Julianne Moore said, 'The audience doesn't come to see you; they come to see themselves.' Adler is someone you can hold up as a mirror for someone in the audience. They'll be able to far more easily identify with Frank Adler than Steve Rogers."

If it's true that Evans will be passing on his shield, it'll definitely cause a lot of heartbreak for fans. Evans' Captain America has been a Marvel staple. However, fans must understand that even actors need room for growth, and if Evans feels like he's moving towards a direction outside Marvel, then they ought to respect that.

Avengers: Infinity War premieres on May 4, 2018.
