Avatar Iroh Voice Actor Explains Why He’ll Never Sing 'Leaves From The Vine'

It's been quite a while since Nickelodeon aired episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender, however, the animated television series continues to make its mark on fans with its amazing storytelling and its emotionally complex characters.

Some of the best characters in the series were the first season's villains – Prince Zuko and Uncle Iroh. While Zuko went on a journey to find himself, Iroh was there to patiently guide him, teaching the banished son of the Fire Lord to forge his own path instead of following the paths that others set for him.

Remembering the series original voice actor for Uncle Iroh, Greg Baldwin has decided to take to Twitter to answer a popular fan-question about the Avatar song, "Leaves from the Vine." The song was sung during one of the show's most memorable episodes where Iroh has a day to himself, wandering around the streets of the Earth Kingdom, Ba Sing Se. The song is played throughout the episode and then sung by Iroh at the end while lights a few sticks of incense at the grave of Lu Ten, celebrating the birthday of his dead son.

"Leaves from the Vine" might have always struck a chord among fans, but Baldwin says that he always declines singing the song out of respect for Iroh's original voice actor, Mako Iwamatso.

Mako was Iroh's voice actor for a number of years before esophageal cancer took his life. The episode Leaves from the Vine was created to honor Mako's memory.

What do you think? Does "Leaves from the Vine" still get you emotional? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
