Analysts Predict A 20 Percent Content Loss For Netflix In 2019

Hoping to take a bite out of the streaming market, Disney is planning to launch its own streaming site this year. While it might seem exciting to find all of the Mickey Mouse House's offerings in one place, the upcoming Disney+ streaming service means a major loss in content for Netflix.

Netflix's offerings could look a whole lot different starting the first quarter of the year. With Disney planning to take its content from Netflix to add to its own streaming site, analysts expect the streaming giant to lose a large chunk of its library. It also doesn't help that Disney is working on acquiring 21st Century Fox and its various film and television assets. Once the merger comes to completion, that would mean another exodus from Netflix.

AT&T or Time Warner also has a streaming service making its way later this year. Comcast is also following suit. With major studios hoping to take part in the streaming market, analysts expect Netflix to lose around 20 percent of its offerings. Ampere Analysis' report reveals that films and series from Disney, Fox, Warner, and Comcast make up 20 percent of the content hours on Netflix. Without these, the streaming site could find itself a little bit empty.

Of course, this hallow won't last very long. Netflix has been ramping up its content over the years, and at one point the streaming giant promised to deliver high-budget films with a production value of up to $200 million. It barely comes as a surprise considering the success of films like Birdbox and series like Stranger Things.
