Tim Burton On The Possibility Of ‘Beetlejuice 2’

The possibility of a Beetlejuice sequel has been rumored for quite some time now. With the recent upsurge of reboots of classic films, it's no wonder why fuel has been added to the fire of the Beetlejuice 2 speculations.

Beetlejuice director Tim Burton initially shut down rumors of a sequel when he had been asked back in March, but now, it appears that the filmmaker has changed his mind.

In a recent interview with Collider, Burton changed his stance and said:

It's something that I really would like to do in the right circumstances, but it's one of those films where it has to be right. It's not a kind of a movie that cries out [for a sequel], it's not theBeetlejuicetrilogy.

The legendary filmmaker also spoke about recent rumors about the movie's potential cast:

This is the thing, it's something that I'm interested in, but there's so many stories [online], dumping Michael Keaton for Johnny Depp and this or that, and I've talked to these people and they didn't wanna hear this so they just made up a story.

The original Beetlejuice follows the story of "bio-exorcist" (Keaton) who is hired by a ghostly couple played by Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin to evict a living family from their home. The family includes a goth daughter named Lydia, who is played by Winona Ryder.

The film garnered blockbuster and critical success in 1988 and grossed nearly $74 million following its release. Due to its popularity, an animated TV series with the same title was created, airing from 1989 to 1991.

While Burton concluded his answer by saying there isn't "anything concrete" right now, his statements still provide a glimmer of hope for fans. It's worth noting that he said he already spoke to Keaton and Ryder, among a few other people. It looks like Beetlejuice 2 isn't entirely impossible.

Looking closely into Burton's words, if there will indeed be a Beetlejuice sequel, no doubt it will be another potential blockbuster from a well-thought out screenplay.

Burton's latest projects include Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, slated for release in September 30, as well as a live-action adaptation of Disney's Dumbo.
