The Man From UNCLE Sequel Is In The Works

I have never been angrier at critics after the first time I saw Guy Ritchie's The Man from UNCLE reboot because I absolutely loved the film! Ritchie's directing style absolutely fits into the world of the 1960s, and I thought Armie Hammer and Henry Cavill were just fun to watch as agents Illya Kuryakin and Napoleon Solo. Despite the disappointing box office returns, Hammer himself has confirmed that a sequel for UNCLE is in the works. We don't have a release date yet, though.

In an interview with Slash Film, Hammer shared a conversation he had with one of the producers for The Man from UNCLE. He shares:

"I called Lionel Wigram, the producer of the movie, and he and Guy produced it and wrote it all together. I was like, ‘Dude, what's the deal? I get asked about this shit all the time. Can you just write a sequel?' He was like, ‘You know what? Yeah, f*** it, I'll do it. Sure, I'll write a sequel.' I was like, ‘If you write one, I'm sure we can get one made,' so who knows? Today is the first day I've actually told anyone that story. I only told one other person who asked. Apparently, the sequel is being written right now. No pressure, Lionel!"

When the movie first came out, it was absolutely slammed by critics, and The Man from UNCLE ended up making only $109 million out of its $75 million budget. The movie ended with what could potentially be the start of a new franchise, but after the poor reception, it seemed like any hopes for a sequel were dead in the water.

Hopefully more people come to realize how fun the movie actually is. I loved Guy Ritchie's work from Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, and his style and tone absolutely fit into this movie. I just find it weird that lately he's just been making period pieces like King Arthur and the Robert Downey Jr.-fueled Sherlock Holmes movies. We need more Man from UNCLE!
