Sword Art Online Live-Action Series Gets Tomb Raider Writers

Despite mixed reviews for the Death Note movie in Netflix, it looks like Hollywood is bent on adapting more anime to the big and small screen. One of those projects that might have been under your radar is a live-action Sword Art Online series. While no one has been cast yet, the series does have writers now in Patrick Massett and John Zinman, as reported by Deadline.

Massett and Zinman are known for working on The Blacklist, Friday Night Lights, and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Their works are quite varied from one another so the series could work if the source material is shown some care. Then again, the first season of the anime is quite flawed so the live-action series could improve on the anime in some instances.

Massett and Zinman had this to say in a joint statement:

"The fantastical world of SAO offers an unparalleled opportunity to tell stories that resonate on both an epic and human scale. We couldn't ask for better partners than Skydance and Laeta to help us bring this global pop culture phenomenon to new life on television."

No release date for the live-action Sword Art Online series has been revealed. Those curious about the anime can check it out on Crunchyroll.
