Star Wars: The Last Jedi Officially Dubs That Lightsaber as Rey’s

Darth Vader's hold in the Star Wars universe will be markedly less when Star Wars: The Last Jedi rolls in. And while the Dark Side is still very much afoot, at least one object from the Sith Lord will already be in the hands of someone who's on the side of the Force.

According to the latest rollout of information for the movie (via the Star Wars Show channel), what used to be Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber before he went to Dark will no longer be his. Rather, it's already a property of Rey.

Technically, this is from the point of view of the marketing team, as far as ownership goes for the weapon.

"Either way, the blade is no longer considered Anakin's lightsaber by the Lucasfilm marketing department. It has now been officially dubbed ‘Rey's."

It's one of the teaser statements that were given by Lucasfilm's Story Group creative executive Pablo Hidalgo in the upcoming Vanity Fair interview for the cast and crew of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Now the next question is what exactly this means to the storyline. Rey's gift has been surprising in the last few scenes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It would be nice to see if this passing on of lightsabers is any indication of her lineage to Anakin, and perhaps even her role in the whole cosmic of things in the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be out in theaters on Dec. 15.
