Star Wars: The Last Jedi might be the top grossing film of 2017, however it seems like Lucasfilm's latest sequel trilogy installment is having trouble keeping its number one spot in the domestic box office.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle has just topped the The Force Awakens sequel, beating the film's $14.5 million earnings on the very first of January with a $16.2 million pull on the same day.
If this keeps up, Jumanji could continue being the top grossing film of 2018, that is, if The Last Jedi doesn't see a sudden sales boost in the next few weeks. Of course, this doesn't mean that the sequel trilogy installment is underperforming. The Last Jedi has managed to rake in $1.07 billion during its third week in cinemas and as of this date the film has crept pass the total earnings of Rogue One.
Though we're still to see whether The Last Jedi will be able to reach the $2 billion earnings of The Force Awakens, the film is doing relatively well. A marketing campaign for Solo: A Star Wars Story might be able to give the film the push it needs to come close to $2 billion.
