Star Wars The Last Jedi: BB-8 And BB-9E Have The Same Dynamic As Luke And Vader

We know that Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be introducing us to a whole bunch of new characters, but we'll also be getting some new droids as well—more specifically the First Order's version of BB-8, BB-9E. The crew had lovingly dubbed the black droid "BB-Hate", and head of Star Wars creature shop Neal Scanlan talks a bit more about the droid.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Scanlan said:

"BB-8 has this huge personality and this huge heart, but you know, in a sense, I've always found it to have a sort of slightly manipulative quality… With BB-9E, we go back to literally the cold First Order sort of Empire version of what a BB unit might be. This was much more cold, calculative, much more direct."

Scanlan also confirms that 9E and BB-8 will eventually meet in the movie, and their interaction will be akin to that of Luke and Vader. It's a weird parallel, but this I have to see:

"There's a lovely moment between BB-8 and BB-9E, which tells that sort of parallel story of Vader and Luke."

I've always been a fan of the droids in Star Wars, and I think it's cool how the Rebels tend to humanize them as compared to the Empire who paints them all black and doesn't even bother to "name" them. I have a feeling that a lot of fans will like BB-9E, and I'm excited to see him grace the screens along with BB-8.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi comes out Dec. 15.
