Star Wars: Daisy Ridley Doesn’t Want A Rey/Poe Romance

The end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi had Rey and Poe officially meeting for the first time, and with Poe saying the lines, "I know" to Rey, a lot of fan speculation has started on whether there will be a Rey/Poe romance. As it turns out Daisy Ridley is against that, and she wants her dynamic with Oscar Isaac to remain friendly.

In an interview with Mtime (via sleemo), she says:

"I haven't spoken to J.J., but I did a film this year that is not romantic. I think it's wonderful to have relationships that are not romantic. I don't think in films you always need a romantic relationship, and I think ‘friend' relationships can be romantic in their gestures and their intimacy and all of that. So I think hopefully, that if Rey and Poe get to have some scenes together and stuff that there'll be intimacy, but I think it doesn't—for me—it doesn't have to be romantic love."

The internet being the way it is, has always been fans of "shipping" characters, and the popular "ship" for Rey's character is currently Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. Though I think some fans may want to see her end up with Finn or Poe, I know that more fans want to see Poe end up with Finn.

Personally, I don't see Rey ending up with anyone by the end of the sequel trilogy. Much like Luke Skywalker, I think her romance is going to end up in the expanded universe; maybe she won't even find any romance at all. But I am a fan of Ridley's idea to just have Poe and Rey be intimate friends; that hug between Cassian and Jyn at the end of Rogue One is still way more cathartic than a kiss between Rose and Finn. I'm just saying.

For now, catch Rey and Poe in their separate adventures in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
