Star Wars: Battlefront Reveals The Importance of Planet Jakku from Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The Star Wars: Battlefront game has been revealed at the Star Wars Celebration Anaheim at Thursday's press-only preview of DICE's highly-anticipated game that's set to officially release on November 17, 2015 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. We shared the epic new trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront yesterday. EA and Lucasfilm also made a surprising story announcement during the presentation.

At Thursday's panel, director J.J. Abrams revealed that the new desert planet from The Force Awakens is called Jakku. Thanks to EA, now we know that the planet is important. Many fans have speculated the thirty-year period between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. There's a lot of missing spaces to fill between that era, but now we know that Star Wars: Battlefront is bringing some answers.

The first DLC forStar Wars Battlefront is called "The Battle of Jakku", and takes place "just after the victory for the Rebel Alliance at the Battle of Endor," the Return of the Jedi's climax. The battle is considered a "pivotal moment," and will see the Rebel Alliance clashing with Imperial holdouts at this desert planet. "These events lead up to that massive wrecked Star Destroyer that you saw in the trailer for The Force Awakens," DICE Design Director Niklas Fegraeus revealed. The DLC will be free to all players, and will be released on December 1, 2015 for pre-orders, or December 8, 2015 for everyone else.

Now at least we know a bit about what some fans are calling the "aftermath" era, and what Lucasfilm has officially called the "Journey to the Force Awakens". Soon, more books and comics will be available to tell the events that lead up to The Force Awakens. Marvel's Shattered Empire comic series and the upcoming novel Star Wars: Aftermath are just some of the books scheduled to be released this year. The information that EA revealed shows us how important Jakku, the planet that Daisy Ridley's Rey is a scavenger on, and where she meets John Boyega's Finn to begin her adventure, really is.

So are you excited to experience The Battle of Jakku in Star Wars: Battlefront?
