Star Trek: Wrath of Khan TV Series Currently in Development

CBS's new Star Trek: Discovery universe was rumored to include various TV spin-off titles, and it looks like the rumors are turning out to be true.

This week, Geek Exchange reported via their sources that Nicholas Meyer, the director of 1982's Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and one of the current writers of Discovery, is developing a limited series for the small screen, which will show the fallout from Kirk dropping Khan Noonien Singh off on Ceti Alpha V during the original series spidoe "Space Seed", as he and his crew try to survive long before they're discovered by the U.S.S. Reliant.

CBS hasn't released any official details about the project, but it's just among other Trek projects that CBS is looking to develop alongside Discovery.

Khan was originally played by the late Ricardo Montalban, and Benedict Cumberbatch played the character in J.J. Abrams' 2013 Star Trek Into Darkness. It's not likely that Cumberbatch wil reprise his venomous role, so we'll probably see a new actor take over.

Star Trek: Discovery synopsis:

Set 10 years prior to the five-year mission of the Enterprise in Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: Discovery follows the adventures of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new lifeforms, and one Starfleet officer who must learn that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself. The series will feature a new ship, new characters, and new missions while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.

Star Trek: Discovery is set to premiere on CBS on September 24.
