Star Trek Fan Film Axanar Lawsuit Settled With CBS and Paramount

Back in December 2015, Paramount Pictures filed a lawsuit against Alec Peters and his Axanar Productions for infringing copyright elements of Star Trek in their fan film. Now the studios and Alec Peters have settled a lawsuit over the crowdfunded Star Trek fan film, Axanar,TheWrap reports.

CBS and Paramount, the rights holders of the Star Trek franchise, agreed to allow the Axanar team to continue to stream their Prelude to Axanar videos on YouTube, and to allow the film to play in two 15-minute chunks on YouTube after those changes are set.

Axanar raised more than a million dollars, and now fans who contributed to the film would like to know how the situation would unfold. Here's the joint statement.

"Axanar Productions was created by lifelong Star Trek fans to celebrate their love for Star Trek. Alec Peters and the Axanar team look forward to continuing to share the Axanar story and are happy to work within the Guidelines for Fan Films for future projects. Throughout this process, we will continue communicating with our fans and backers to ensure they are informed and involved until we reach completion of the production."

Axanar tells the story of Garth and his crew during the Four Years War, the war with the Klingon Empire that almost tore the Federation apart. Garth's victory at Axanar solidified the Federation and allowed it to become the entity we know in Kirk's time. It is the year 2245 and the war with the Klingons ends here.
