Spider-Man PS4: We're Getting a Mature Peter Parker With Mature Problems

Every time Spider-Man gets a movie reboot or new animated series, chances are that the setting will be in high school. The old webhead is often seen as the most relatable superhero and a part of that was due to his original high school adventures, which showed his struggles balancing life as a teenager and a superhero.

Insomniac's Spider-Man PS4 won't be going through that, as interviews have confirmed that he will be a college graduate who has been a superhero for eight years now. While not a new concept to comic book fans, who are more than used to an adult Peter Parker, this will be somewhat refreshing for more casual audiences who only associate the character with high school.

During an interview with Gamereactor, Insomniac chief brand officer Ryan Schneider discussed the older Peter Parker and how his in-game status quo will be like.

"Well you don't have Spider-Man without Peter Parker first and foremost, and our Peter Parker's a little different, like he's graduated college, he's got a job, he's not very tidy. Spider-Man is the master of his craft, he's been doing this for eight years since the origin story that we all know about, but Peter Parker is still Peter Parker. He's just trying to pay the bills, his love life is all over the map, his career is just getting started, and he's just trying to figure out how to manage these relationships in his life."

While he is older and wiser, Schneider was quick to point out that this doesn't mean Peter's life will be easier. If anything, it's going to be more complicated and the game will represent this in a number of ways.

"So on the one hand he's at the height of his game, and on the other he's just trying to figure it all out, and that's evidenced in that great piece that won the award for Into The Pixel."

Even with all that, he's still Peter Parker and it's only a matter of time before the Parker Luck strikes him out somehow. Spider-Man PS4 comes out on September 7.
