Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Vulture Won’t Be Your Average Villain

Of the two Spider-Man films to date, the villains have been very familiar ones that even non-hardcore web-slinger fans know of.

With Spider-Man: Homecoming, fans will finally get a relatively not-so-popular antagonist in the form of Vulture. The actor who will be portraying the role is none other than Michael Keaton, who shares with Variety a little bit of how it was to play the role of villain to a very anticipated Marvel film.

"Not to give too much away, but interestingly, he is and he isn't, that character [a villain]. He's a really interesting—and more interesting than I thought—villain because there's parts of him that go, ‘You know what? I might see his point.' Really, really. It makes it interesting to play."

This isn't the first time that Marvel has introduced us to a villain that isn't all about power hunger and greed. Case in point would be my favorite example: Captain America: Civil War's Zemo. When we got to the exposition part, where Zemo explains that he wants to bring down the empire of the Avengers just because they ruined his life by unwittingly decimating his family, it's not hard to see his point of view.

These are always the more interesting villains, if only because they become more complicated—and thus, more human than the cartoon cookie cutter antagonists.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will be out on July 7. Are you as excited as, well, everyone else?
