Sonny BoyEpisode 11 actually managed to shock me, after I had seriously started thinking that it could never do that. No major character deaths happened in 10 years, and those we did see were either in flashbacks, or reversible, making this one both tragic and unexpected.
The 12-episodeoriginal anime is wrapping up next week, and, to be frank, even Episode 11 felt a bit like an ending. I hardly expect things to get much clearer, or clarified by a Season 2, but I do long to listen to the opening theme song one last time - hopefully at an appropriate scene, like this week.

Sonny Boy is an original anime by Studio Madhouse. It all starts with a classroom of 36 students on a regular summer day. The day, of course, stops being regular when the high-schoolers are transported into another dimension, school building and all.

Mizuho and Nagara set up tents for what looks like a celebration, but, in a violent twist, we discover that they're actually holding a farewell banquet for Nozomi's death. While neither Mizuho nor Nagara was present to confirm her death, they are sure of it, as the cats brought them a compass, which they believe to be Nozomi's final imprint in the world.
None of their classmates attend but for Rajdhani, who makes a surprise appearance. In many ways, their old friend is his normal nerdy self, but he's still profoundly changed. It looks like he experienced his travels as a 2000-year long time, and his feelings about God and the universe have changed. He's now more nihilistic and claims the world is an absurd place in which cool things occasionally happen, and he clings on that to keep going.
Rajdhani no longer wishes to go home and claims he only felt nostalgia once, when he encountered a world similar to his own, yet colored by the perception of its creator to the point that no one else's thoughts and feelings mattered; a world devoid of others.
Rajdhani has a plan that will allow Mizuho and Nagara to go home; they'll be the only ones out of the cohort, as their classmates have lost their will to go back. The two embark on the journey Rajdhani orchestrates for them, knowing that if they manage to reach home, they will have been missing for 2 years, therefore there's no way to tell what they will find. We can't wait to discover it with them - though we do expect the finale to be very confusing.

Sonny Boy Episode 12 titled "Two Years Vacation" (Jules Vernes reference?!) is going to be released next Friday the 1st of October for premium Funimationand Huluusers. International fans might be able to access it from the 30th of September depending on their timezone.
Non-subscribed users will have to wait one more week to watch Sonny Boy Episode 12 for free. Since September 16, the English dub will also be released weekly.
