Spider-Man: No Way Home Villains and What To Expect

With the upcoming release of Spider-Man: No Way Home in December of 2021, there are multiple theories about the upcoming plots and twists. However, as there is no trailer available yet, it's extremely difficult to decipher what the next Spider-Man film involves.

Thankfully though, difficult does not mean impossible and there is still enough information currently circulating to gain a great understanding of who the upcoming villains in the film could be!

In the Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage trailer, we see hints of the idea that Spider-Man could exist within the same universe as Venom, this includes a copy of the daily bugle newspaper that matches the original Daily Bugle from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man in 2002. But does that mean that Venom could be one of the lead villains in Spider-Man: No Way Home? Unfortunately, the answer is that it's highly unlikely. According to an interview that Venom director Andy Serkis did with IGN, there are hints that allude to the idea of Spider-Man but the characters of Venom and Spider-Man don't know each other in this universe yet. Therefore it's highly unlikely that Venom will be in the next Spider-Man will be appearing in the Spider-Man sequel.

In the world of Marvel and Hollywood, it seems to be becoming Hollywood's secret that Spider-Man No Way Home will be containing some sort of integrated Spider-Verse. The biggest hint of this came from actor Alfred Molina who played the infamous Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2004. He confirmed in an interview with Variety that he will be returning as the infamous Doctor Octopus and with the help of CGI, playing the character as we last saw him 17 years ago.

Electro

Another villain supposedly confirmed in Spider-Man: No Way Home is Jamie Foxx's portrayal of Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. According to inside scooper Daniel Richtman, the actor posted a picture on his Instagram of three different versions of Spider-Man standing together and writing that he was excited to be a part of The Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, this post was then deleted. Foxx also thanked one of his ex-co-stars on Twitter when he was praised for getting the part for Electro once more. Therefore it's safe to say he will be another foe of Spider-Man. As Molina's Doctor Octopus and Foxx's Electro are both spidey-villains from different universes, it only strengthens the concept that No Way Home will consist of a Spider-verse. There are even rumors in which Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire will be reprising their roles as Spider-Man.

Vulture

At the end of the Morbius trailer, we see Michael Keaton's depiction of Adrian Toomes aka The Vulture make a cameo appearance. As well as this, at the end of Spider-Man Homecoming, we see him entering jail. As Marvel doesn't typically waste end credit scenes (apart from Captain America's detention video), It would seem peculiar to show the audience these clues unless they were planning to bring The Vulture back as one of its villains against Spider-Man. However, in the end-credit scene with Vulture, we also get another clue as to who could be joining this ensemble of Villains.

Scorpion

In Spider-Man Homecoming, we are briefly introduced to Mac Gargan, a criminal with an extensive record including homicide who ends up being one of Adrian Toomes potential buyers for his hi-tech weapons. Although it's not hinted at, within the comics Mac Gargan ends up becoming Scorpion, a villain with superhuman strength, speed, agility, reflexes, stamina, and a strong grip. He is also equipped with a suit that allows him control of a mechanical tail that is equipped with different weapons. He explains to Toombes while pointing at his scarred face:

"Relax. This? It's not on you. It's on our, uh... little spider friend. I've got some boys on the outside who would love to meet him."

Just like The Vulture cameos in end credit scenes and trailer, it would seem odd for Marvel to introduce us to this character without actively using him in the upcoming Spider-Man film. However, unless Gargan is simply given a super-suit that mimics his powers in the comics, it would seem like a lot to have to write in a separate origin story for him along with packing all the other Supervillains into one film. Nothing is officially confirmed with Mac Gargan's role but it seems likely we could see the entrance of Scorpion.

Morbius

With the upcoming Morbius film due to release in January of 2022, could we see an early entrance of him in Spider-Man: No Way Home? With the cameo of Michael Keaton's Vulture in the trailer, it's certainly a possibility that Morbius is in The MCU and therefore could even play a cameo role in the upcoming Spidey-flick! However, as Spider-Man: No way Home is being released a month prior to Morbius on December 17th of 2021, it would seem peculiar to integrate Morbius as one of the many villains possibly appearing with an origin movie just after.

With the recent announcement of Aaron Taylor Johnson playing the role of Sergei Kravinoff AKA Kraven The Hunter in his solo movie, rumors say that we could be seeing his first appearance in the Spider-man movie which would be extraordinary. At this point, it would seem like the multiple villains that could appear in this film might be teaming up….

Sinister Six in Spider-Man No Way Home

It is almost impossible for any Marvel fan to look at the list of supervillains without immediately jumping to the conclusion that we will finally be seeing a live-action version of The Sinister Six. As one of Marvel's most famous super-villain groups, the concept was teased to the audience towards the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. However, due to the films not taking off as expected, The Sinister Six never came to life.

The original members were brought together and lead by Doctor Octopus, and the original members of The Sinister Six consisted of Electro, Vulture, Kraven The Hunter, Sandman, and Mysterio. However, since the original members, there have been different iterations of The Sinister Six, which is why some people believe that we could be joined by the cackle of...

Green Goblin

With the excitement of Doctor Octopus being confirmed in the new spidey film alongside whispers of Tobey Maguire donning the red-blue tights once more; rumors have begun to leak about the idea of Willem Dafoe getting back on the glider and becoming The Green Goblin once more!

Seeing as Marvel are willing to bring Doctor Octopus from the dead despite having drowned with a miniature sun on top of him, it doesn't seem like it would be inconceivable to bring Norman Osborn back to life after being impaled by his own glider. There is no doubt that having Ock and Goblin together in The Sinister Six would truly be an epic Spider-Man film. But nothing has been confirmed just yet. Fingers crossed!

Mysterio

Despite being blamed for the murder of Mysterio at the end of Spider-Man Far From Home, it's almost impossible to ever believe that the master of illusion himself could actually be dead. If there is a Sinister Six assembling in the new film, then as an original member Mysterio will hopefully be shown once more.

Is there a Spider-verse in Spider-Man No Way Home?

Due to the confirmations of both Electro and Doc Ock, as well as Marvel Studios Director Kevin Feige confirming that No Way Home is connected to Doctor Strange 2, It seems with extremely high probability that we'll be seeing a live-action spider-verse take place.

Either way, it seems that this could be the most jam-packed Spider-Man film to date, bringing back the nostalgia from the older films as well as something we haven't seen before.

Who are you hoping will make an appearance in the next Spider-Man film?
