Black Ops Cold War Season 5 Reloaded goes live on September 8th, but the Season 5 Reloaded update is live now, and you can download and install it in preparation for the update itself going live.

Season 5 Reloaded will kick off the Numbers Event in both Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone, which is expected to continue Perseus's storyline, though specifics on the event have not been revealed. On top of the event, Season 5 Reloaded will bring a new map, a new mode, new operators, and fresh zombies content to Cold War.

On top of the 6v6 maps Echelon, Drive-In, and Slums added already in Season 5 (with Drive-In and Slums being remastered classic maps), Season 5 Reloaded will add Zoo, another remastered classic 6v6 map this time from the DLC for the original Black Ops. Though Zoo is a reasonably well-liked map, many Call of Duty players have been crying out for fan-favorite Black Ops maps like Firing Range to be remastered for Cold War.

Season 5 Reloaded is also set to introduce Demolition to Cold War, a classic Call of Duty game mode that's like Search and Destroy with respawns enabled: Players are tasked with either planting bombs or defending bomb sites before a timer runs out. Unlike Search, in Demolition if the bomb is defused the round doesn't end, so it's a lot more hectic.

For fans of Cold War's zombies experience, the map Armada is being added to Outbreak with the update as well as a new zombies mode, Survival. A new Outbreak in-game event called Black Chest is also being added, though details about the event haven't been announced, in addition to the Rampage Inducer item being introduced in round-based maps. The Rampage Inducer increases Zombie spawn rates and allows players to zoom around the map.

The update also introduces new Operators Judge Dredd and Hudson, a classic Black Ops CIA agent. Judge Dredd comes as another entry in the long line of pop culture tie-in Operators like Rambo or Jackie Chan introduced to Call of Duty.

It's also likely the update will bring with it various balance changes and fixes, many of which are currently being demanded by fans, as the weapons introduced in Season 5 are extremely dominant in most lobbies. Though the TEC-9 SMG was recently nerfed, the shotgun pistol the Marshall has not been, and the TEC-9, Marshall, and EM2 assault rifle are still devastatingly powerful compared to other similar guns.

Activision has been tight-lipped on what's to come after Season 5, especially as the launch of Call of Duty: Vanguard approaches, but Season 6 of Cold War is happening. This is evidenced by the current Cold War prestige system: Every major update brings additional prestiges to the game, currently maxing out at prestige 23, but later prestiges coming in Season 6 are already listed in-game. This makes sense because Season 5 of Cold War ends on October 8th, approximately a season's worth of time before Vanguard launches.

Plus, it's important to remember that Vanguard won't launch into Season 1 but will instead stay live with its launch-content for a while until the first season is introduced, much like Cold War. The first season of Vanguard will likely tie into the launch of a new map for Warzone as well, as it's unlikely Activision will want to split players between Vanguard and a new Warzone map at launch when games do most of their sales.
