Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Forest Whitaker's Details, Possible Meaning For The Title, Villain Revealed

We're still 11 months away from the release of Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but more rumored details about the film's story and characters have been emerging. We already shared the info about Darth Vader's action scenes, seen photos of costumes, reported details about the characters' disguises in the film, and posted bits of other interesting bits like Stormtroopers in black uniforms and a new droid character that sources from Making Star Wars shared.

Now, we got more rumors to share, including details about Forest Whitaker's character, the possible meaning of the "Rogue One" title, and a taste of the new non-Darth Vader villain in the film.

First off is a scoop from Making Star Wars, whose track record for this kind of stuff has been more solid than most. The rumor concerns the character played by Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker, who, like every other cast member, is still a mystery in the film. Here's what the site said about his character:

Forest Whitaker's character uses a cane.
It appears he has one leg and uses a cane as a crutch to walk.
He appears to be a veteran of some battles, but it isn't clear if he lost his leg fighting in the Clone Wars or against the Empire.
Based on a differentiated code name from the rest of the rebels in the movie, it appears he is likely good but maybe a bounty hunter affiliated type…
He seems to be a "good guy" in Rogue One.
He has a cape and his costume is a hodgepodge of different things (think of someone you might see at Maz's castle).

The article went on to mention that he might have a robot leg, which means that Whitaker is playing a cyborg with a cape.

The next one is about the meaning of the film's title - Yesterday, we shared the photo (via Twitter) of a promotional Rogue One LEGO set displayed at Nuremberg Toy Fair, and it shows Slave 1, a modified prototype Firespray-31-class patrol and attack craft that was previously owned by his father, Jango.

Does that mean Boba Fett will appear in the film? Does the title mean something connected to Boba Fett's ship, Slave 1?

The next report comes from Making Star Wars again, and it comes with a spoiler warning, so if you don't want to read about it, I suggest you stop reading. This includes some minor details about the main villain of the film, who is reportedly played by Ben Mendelsohn. It sounds like he's also a member of the Rogue One cape club:

There is a bad guy or person of some importance to the Empire. His main feature is a huge majestic white cape with a slit in the back. In the film there is a beautiful shot of this Imperial treading through a shallow body of water with said cape trailing him. The figure that wears it appears to be an older male. I'm told he has a badass sidearm and a really cool name. We're fairly certain this is Ben Mendelsohn's character but that's not 100% or verified at this time.

He's probably a big deal to the empire since the site claimed that there are shots of this villain walking through legions of Stormtroopers. These details are intriguing. Who do you think he could be? He's probably a new character they haven't introduced yet, but I can't wait to see the first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is set to be released in theaters on Dec. 16, 2016.
