Ridley Scott Thinks Disney Is 'F*cking Stupid' For Hiring Inexperienced Directors For Star Wars

Ridley Scott is one of the most influential directors of our time, and with 2017 seeing Lucasfilm fire three directors in their roster, Scott has come out to comment on their decisions and calls the actions ‘f*cking stupid.'

Talking to Vulture, Scott said:

"I think they [Disney] like to be in control, and I like to be in control myself… When you get a guy who's done a low-budget movie and you suddenly give him $180 million, it makes no sense whatsoever. It's fuckin' stupid. You know what the reshoots cost?... Millions, Millions!"

Scott then goes on to comment the difference between an experienced director like himself and one who has just been given a big-budget film.

"You can get me for my fee, which is heavy, but I'll be under budget and on time. This is where experience does matter, it's as simple as that! It can make you dull as dishwater, but if you're really experienced and you know what you're doing, it's fucking essential. Grow into it, little by little. Start low-budget, get a little bit bigger, maybe after $20 million, you can go to $80. But don't suddenly go to $160."

Then again, Phil Lord and Chris Miller weren't fired due to their inexperience, but because of creative differences, with the pair shooting Solo contrary to what Lucasfilm wanted. Colin Trevorrow could be a more prominent example, but he was fired under the notion of misbehavior (pretty much like Josh Trank).

Though Scott's comment still makes sense, it hardly applies to what Lucasfilm has been doing when they fired those directors. The way it looks, those Lord, Miller, and Trevorrow weren't fired for their inexperience, but for their inability to see eye-to-eye with Kathy Kennedy.

Personally, I'm putting my trust in Kathleen Kennedy to do the right thing when it comes to the franchise. I love what happened with Rogue One, and I'm hopeful that Solo: A Star Wars Story comes out splendidly.
