Yesterday, word came around that Lucasfilm had put all of its Star Wars Story spinoff movies on hold after the poor performance of the studio's latest standalone movie, Solo.
However, while Disney and Lucasfilm are still trying to refine their production process for their Star Wars standalone movies, that doesn't mean the studios are pulling the plug on all their upcoming Star Wars projects.
According to Collider, though Lucasfilm is focusing most of its energy on Star Wars: Episode IX, the trilogy being developed by Star Wars: The Last Jedi writer-slash-director Rian Johson and the films being helmed by Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff are still on the rise.
"These projects continue to be in development and are not part of the paused spinoffs we're hearing about. But Lucasfilm's main focus at the moment is planning the next trilogy after the Abrams-directed [Episode IX], which is expected to conclude the story of Rey (Daisy Ridley) that began with The Force Awakens."
Johnson's trilogy has been seemingly a sure-fire project from Lucasfilm, however, previous reports on Benioff and Weiss film's have not clarified on the total number of movies that Game of Thrones duo would be developing. Now, this little note by Collider implies that Weiss and Benioff are working on a trilogy of their own.
Details regarding these projects have been scarce, but we expect to learn more as soon as Star Wars: Episode IX hits theatres next year.
