Will Saru Return Star Trek: Discovery Season 4?

There is little doubt that fans are celebrating the fact that Michael Burnham is now the new captain of the Discovery. But what could this possibly mean for Saru in Star Trek: Discovery Season 4? Will the former captain still play a major role in the upcoming season or is it finally time to say goodbye to Doug Jones' character?

In Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 Episode 13, Saru spent most of his time with Su'Kal, the child-like Kelpien who was revealed to be the cause of The Burn. As Su'Kal came into terms with what happened a long time ago, Saru also started to reconsider his role as Discovery's captain. Ultimately, Saru decided to step down as captain as he chose to help the younger Kelpien adjust to his new life on Kaminar.

Not surprisingly, most Trekkies aren't happy with Saru's decision although the previous episodes have hinted at Saru not being comfortable with being the captain. In addition to that, fans are concerned that this would mean Saru will not be back in Star Trek: Discovery Season 4.

Although it sounds like Saru will no longer take command of Discovery, we already know that Jones will be back in the fourth season. After all, he had joined Sonequa Martin-Green in the announcement of Season 4 and expressed his excitement about exploring his character's role even further. With that in mind, we can't wait to see what's in store for Saru in the future.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 Episode 13 is currently streaming on CBS All Access.
