Watchmen Star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Teases Mysterious The Matrix 4 Casting

It seems like everything about The Matrix 4 is still a huge mystery, including the role of an Emmy Award winner. We have yet to find out who Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will be playing in the highly anticipated sequel but the Watchmen star has casually spoken about how he got cast in his mysterious role.

Abdul-Mateen recently spoke to Collider where he admitted that he was completely blown away when he read the sequel's script.

"My reaction to the script [was], ‘Wow, people are really gonna like this. I like this. People are really gonna like this,'" Abdul-Mateen II said . "It's different and it's the same, you know, at the same time. So it's a really, really very intelligent blend of what we want and what we may not know that we want."

The Aquaman star also revealed that he had an unconventional audition with director Lana Wachowski.

"My first meeting with Lana wasn't even really an audition. It was just that it was a meeting about getting to know me, and getting to know her, and our histories, and how I am as an actor. Lana was interested in creating a family before she was interested in creating a cast. I was very fortunate enough to be welcomed into that family. To be over in Berlin with that team, making something special is definitely something that I'm proud to say I'm a part of," Abdul-Mateen said.

Sadly, we're not getting any hints at who he's playing although people have been trying to guess for a long time. There have been speculations that Abdul-Mateen will portray a young Morpheus while others claim he is a completely new character. Hopefully, we'll get an official announcement about his role soon.

Abdul-Mateen recently won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or a Movie for his performance in Watchmen.
