Tom Hiddleston Opens up About Playing Loki Without Chris Hemsworth's Thor

There is little doubt that fans have always associated Loki with Thor. After all, the God of Mischief was introduced as the villain in his brother's first movie and they have been working together ever since. But what is it like to finally break free from the God of Thunder's shadow? Tom Hiddleston has opened up about working on the Loki series without Chris Hemsworth's Thor.

Hiddleston recently spoke to MTV News where he confirmed that Loki and Thor have always been connected.

"There was always, initially in those early stories in the MCU, there was this duality between Thor and Loki and Loki and Thor, and Chris and I had defined these characters together in opposition," Hiddleston said. "I suppose Loki was always defined by his relationship to Thor and kind of vice versa."

The Night Manager actor then added that being away from the God of Thunder also offered an amazing opportunity.

"One of the things that I was excited by [in Loki] was actually in any drama, if you strip or take away from a character the things that are familiar, then something has to be revealed about what remains. So if you take Loki away from Thor, away from Asgard, away from all the things that he's used to being around — what makes Loki, Loki?" Hiddleston said.

It's certainly a change to see Loki on his own and without the people he had always been associated with. It's a different look at the character and also a great way to learn more about the God of Mischief.

The Loki series has already confirmed that the God of Mischief is working with TVA in an effort to catch a fugitive Variant of himself who has been messing with the Sacred Timeline. In the latest episode, it was finally revealed that the Variant is female and has used a new branch in the timeline to escape and Loki immediately followed her.

For now, it is still unclear if Loki will be reunited with Thor in the series. After all, it has not yet been confirmed whether Hemsworth will have a cameo beyond the footage from the previous Marvel Cinematic Universe flicks. Nevertheless, we're loving how the show is telling Loki's story.

The first and second episodes of Loki are now streaming on Disney+. The third episode will premiere on the streaming service on June 23, 2021.
