The Matrix 4 Reportedly Bringing Back The Merovingian

It looks like Keanu Reeves' Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss' Trinity will be reunited with one of those characters they didn't exactly get along with in the previous Matrix films. A new report reveals that The Matrix 4 will be bringing back the Merovingian.

The report comes from Allo Cine, which reveals that Lambert Wilson is currently in negotiations to reprise his role as The Frenchman. The character had previously appeared in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions.

The possible return of the Merovingian could mean interesting things for The Matrix 4. After all, the Frenchman was one of the older programs introduced in the Matrix and is viewed as the holder of information. There is little doubt that the character will continue to be an important part of the story because of his knowledge. However, it must be noted that the casting has not yet been confirmed so it is best to take this with a grain of salt.

While we're interested in the possible return of the Merovingian, it also raises another question. What are the chances that his wife Persephone will be back in The Matrix 4? We'd love to see Monica Belucci reprise her role in the upcoming sequel. Unfortunately, there haven't been any casting updates about the character just yet.

The Matrix 4 is expected to begin production early this year. The film is then scheduled for release on May 21, 2021.
