In case you missed it, Gina Carano is no longer employed by Lucasfilm. The Deadpool actress has been removed from The Mandalorian and will no longer play Cara Dune in Season 3. But will the character actually be recast? Who could replace Carano in the Star Wars series?
Carano has faced backlash due to her controversial posts on social media. Not surprisingly, it led to people starting the hashtag #FireGinaCarano on Twitter and Disney has finally chosen to act upon it. Although Carano might not be the most loved actor right now, fans are understandably concerned about her character's future.
So will Cara Dune get recast in The Mandalorian Season 3? Fans believe that Disney and Lucasfilm still want to keep the character in the ongoing storyline. With that in mind, fans have started fan-casting possible replacements for Carano.
Lucy Lawless
The first name that came up belongs to the actress who once played one of the original bad-ass female TV warriors. Lawless is best known for her role in Xena: Warrior Princess and could easily take on the role. However, others believe casting another MMA star would work better for Cara Dune.
Sonya Deville
Deville is a WWE superstar who has already expressed interest in joining The Mandalorian (and the Fast and Furious franchise). Her fans have also been campaigning for Deville to take over the role of Cara in the show.
She's certainly an ideal candidate and we'd love to see Deville's acting debut to be as a badass character like Cara. On the other hand, some think that a Fast and Furious star could be a more fitting option.
Michelle Rodriguez
We already know that Rodriguez can fight and act at the same time. Her breakthrough role was in Girlfight and she has appeared in several action films since then. However, she isn't the only Fast and Furious actress who is being suggested for the role of Cara.
Charlize Theron
Why not get someone who is already an established action star who happens to be an Academy Award winner? Theron would be an awesome addition to The Mandalorian as well as the Star Wars Universe. However, she might not be the kind of star who would take on a role that has already been played by somebody else.
Will Cara Dune Get Recast in the First Place?
The idea of Cara not being part of The Mandalorian anymore is a painful thought for fans who loved how the character represented women. However, there is a possibility that Cara could simply get written out of Season 3 to make way for a completely new character who could still do the same thing.
We don't like the idea of losing Cara Dune but it's still possible that The Mandalorian will move forward with a new character. For now, Disney and Lucasfilm have not revealed their plans for Season 3. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
