The Mandalorian Made Boba Fett's Original Name Canon Again

It's no secret that Boba Fett's triumphant return is one of the best things about the latest episode of The Mandalorian Season 2. However, Chapter 14: The Tragedy also confirmed something cool about the Star Wars character. Interestingly, a brief scene made it clear that Boba's original name in the Star Wars Expanded Universe is canon all over again.

In The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 6, Boba revealed that his armor has a chain coded message that can prove he owns it. Fans have actually tried deciphering the code that appeared in the scene and there are some interesting key words to note.

"Foundling, Took into th..., The year, the..., Concord Dawn, Mentor Jaste..., Father Fett, Boba, Fett," are some of the words that can be seen. This is great considering that it seems to confirm that Jango Fett is from the Mandalorian planet Concord Dawn. In addition to that the words "Mentor Jaste" is obviously a reference to Jaster Mereel.

Fans who are familiar with the Star WarsLegends short story The Last One Standing: The Tale of Boba Fett would remember that Jaster Mereel was Boba's real name. Although the story has since been retconned when Boba was revealed to be Jango Fett's clone, Jaster was later given a different role in the comics.

In the comic series Jango Fett: Open Seasons, Jaster was reintroduced as the Mandalore, the leader of the Mandalorians. He would later save Jango's life from the Death Watch and raise the boy like his own son, training and preparing him to become the next Mandalore. Interestingly, both Jango and Boba would use the name as a pseudonym in his honor.
