People have been wondering about Cara Dune's fate now that Gina Carano has been fired from The Mandalorian. But who could take over and play the Star Wars character? A surprising new petition is calling for Marvel Cinematic Universe star Don Cheadle to play Cara in Season 3.
Earlier this week, Lucasfilm confirmed that Carano will no longer return in The Mandalorian Season 3. The firing came after the Deadpool actor's controversial posts on social media.
Although people had mixed reactions to Carano's firing, everyone appeared to be concerned about what would happen to her character in The Mandalorian Season 3. Most believed that Cara should be recast and a strange petition on Change.org has an unexpected suggestion: Don Cheadle.
The petition points out that The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau had needed to recast a character after the first Iron Man film. After Terrence Howard left, Cheadle took over the role of James "Rhodey" Rhodes and would continue to play Tony Stark's buddy in several MCU movies.
"Don Cheadle has already proven to the world that he can not only pick up where another actor left off, but elevate a character to a place we haven't seen before," the petition reads. "Cara Dune is an interesting, open-ended character that many Star Wars fans have come to enjoy on-screen."
It's an interesting casting choice and it looks like several fans agree. As of writing, the petition has gained 2,379 signatures and more people are signing up as well.
Although we'd love to see Cheadle join The Mandalorian, it's important to point out that he currently has a major project to work on. The Avengers: Endgame star had previously confirmed that he will begin filming for Marvel's Armor Wars in a few months.
