Fans are loving Star Wars: The Bad Batch for bringing back Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, Echo and Crosshair. After all, the members of Clone Force 99 were some of the coolest new characters introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7. Interestingly, the other show didn't reveal what happened to the Bad Batch when Order 66 was executed but now we have the answer in their own series.
Clone Force 99, who prefer to call themselves The Bad Batch, is a special forces squad that was active during the Clone Wars. They are made up of clone commandos with genetic enhancements that make them more efficient than other Clone Troopers.
Although they are genetically modified, the members of Clone Force 99 are essentially still clone soldiers. With that in mind, they also have Inhibitor chips that were embedded into every clone.
Clone Force 99 appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 but they did not return in the last few episodes when Palpatine executed Order 66. However, their location has finally been revealed in The Bad Batch Episode 1.
In Aftermath, the Bad Batch was sent to the planet Kallar to assist Jedi Knights Depa Billaba and Caleb Dume. Hunter, Echo, Tech, Crosshair, and Wrecker were in the middle of a battle when Order 66 was executed. Interestingly, everyone but Crosshair resisted the urge to kill the Jedi and Hunter even allowed Caleb to escape.
It is unclear how Hunter, Echo, Tech, and Wrecker were able to resist the order. There is a possibility that it had something to do with their genetic enhancements but some argue that the modifications should have made Crosshair resistant as well.
So does this mean that it was something else that made the others refuse to execute the order? This could be explored in the next episodes of The Bad Batch.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch Episode 1 is now streaming on Disney+.
