Terry Pratchett's Discworld TV Series The Watch Casts Game Of Thrones Star

It looks like Beric Dondarrion has been resurrected to become ... the leader of the Night Watch? No, not that Night Watch. Game of Thrones actor Richard Dormer has officially joined the cast of BBC's upcoming series based on Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels.

BBC has announced that Dormer will headline the live-action adaptation of The Watch. The former Game of Thrones star will portray Sam Vimes, the Captain of The Watch who tries to control his team and keep the city of Ankh-Morpork relatively safe.

Dormer is understandably excited to take on the new role that hopefully doesn't involve being killed and resurrected five times and having to wield a flaming sword (which would be awesome, but still).

"I'm so thrilled to be part of this brilliant madness and mayhem! I was immediately drawn to the multitude of layers to Sam Vimes, and I find the dynamic between him and his band of disenfranchised comrades very compelling," Dormer said.

Dormer will join Adam Hugill, Jo Eaton-Kent, Marama Corlett, Lara Rossi, and Sam Adewunmi. Hugill will play Constable Carrot, the new recruit to the Watch who has to work under the watchful eye of Corlett's Corporal Angua. Eaton-Kent portrays Constable Cheery, who is described as an "ingenious non-binary forensics expert."

Rossi has been cast as Lady Sybil Ramkin, who tries her hand at "chaotic vigilantism" and Adewunmi will play the mysterious Carcer Dun.

The premise of The Watch reads as follows:

"Set in the fictional city of Ankh-Morpork, where crime has been legalized, The Watch is a uniquely anarchic drama. The series centers on a group of misfit cops as they rise up from decades of helplessness to save their corrupt city from catastrophe. The Watch is an inclusive genre-bending series inspired by the legendary ‘City Watch' subset of Sir Terry Pratchett's bestselling Discworld novels and its many iconic characters."

The Watch has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
