Will Star Wars' Kathleen Kennedy Be Next After Bob Iger Disney Exit?

In case you missed it, Disney CEO Bob Iger has just announced that he is stepping down from his current position. Not surprisingly, people are already wondering if Iger's exit will mean major changes in the House of Mouse. For instance, could it mean that Kathleen Kennedy's position in the studio will be affected? Additionally, would it lead to Kennedy having to step away from Star Wars as well?

It was previously reported that Iger confirmed that he is stepping down as CEO of Disney by 2021 and will be working with Bob Chapek, who will be taking over. Needless to say, the news had fans worried that Iger's exit could lead to major changes in the plans for Disney's franchises like Marvel Studios and Star Wars. Interestingly, some concerns included Kennedy's plans for Star Wars and even the Lucasfilm president's own possible exit.

So does this mean that Kennedy's own position is in trouble? Some have pointed out that her own contract will expire in 2021 and there is a possibility that it will no longer be renewed. However, it seems unlikely that Iger's exit will actually affect plans for Star Wars and Lucasfilm. At this point, the only one who is confirmed to step down is still Iger.

For now, Star Wars appears to be moving forward with new projects. It has already been confirmed that a new series of stories will be released through The High Republic. In addition to that, the next film trilogy could be announced before the end of the year.
