Star Wars: The Force Awakens Concept Art Depicts Luke Skywalker with Darth Vader's Helmet

One of the craziest things about the Star Wars sequel trilogy was probably the fact that Kylo Ren went out of his way to find Darth Vader's helmet from Return of the Jedi. However, it looks like the artifact actually had a different owner in the early plans for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Concept art from Episode VII has just confirmed that Luke Skywalker originally had his late father's helmet with him the whole time.

The concept art was shared by Lucasfilm art director Christian Alzmann on his official Instagram account and it's an amazing image. Check it out below.

"Very early concept for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Trying different ideas," Alzmann wrote. He also added the hashtags #starwars, #theforceawakens, #lukeskywalker, #darthvader, #conceptart, #digitalart, and #photoshop.

Am I the only one who's getting Hamlet vibes from this? It's a stunning idea that seems in line with the whole Skywalker story arc being similar to a Shakespearean tragedy. Also, it could change Luke's whole story throughout the sequel trilogy.

Unfortunately, this is an idea that was discarded but it's still great to see that it was considered in the first place. Now we can't help wondering what would have happened if Luke was the one who kept Vader's helmet all this time.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is now available on digital as the film was released earlier due to the Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19). The Blu-Ray, 4K and DVD release could be moved to summer.
