Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Adds Love and Monsters Writer

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is finally moving forward with an awesome update. The highly anticipated Patty Jenkins project just added Love and Monsters co-writer Matthew Robinson to pen the screenplay.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Robinson has been tapped to write the script for Rogue Squadron, which is based on the series of games developed by LucasArts. The film is expected to focus on the starfighter squadron that goes up against the Galactic Empire.

It's interesting that Robinson's involvement was confirmed just now. After all, the initial announcement about Rogue Squadron also stated that a writer is already working on the script. There is a possibility that Robinson may have finally submitted an acceptable draft for the project.

Robinson is best known for co-writing and co-directing The Invention of Lying with Ricky Gervais back in 2009. Since then, he has worked on mostly sci-fi and fantasy projects like Love and Monsters. Robinson was previously working on the Edge of Tomorrow sequel Live Die Repeat and Repeat. He was also involved in the Little Shop of Horrors remake, which is in the works at Warner Bros.

Rogue Squadron was confirmed back in December 2020 during Disney Investor Day and it was also announced that Jenkins would helm the movie. The Wonder Woman 1984 director had stated that she took on the project with plans to use her fighter pilot father as the main inspiration for the movie.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is still in development. However, the project is already set for release on December 22, 2023.
