This led fans to worry about his fate in the series and if he would even come back. But is it possible that Saru's future in the fourth season will actually lead to an unexpected political role?

Will Saru Return in Star Trek: Discovery Season 4?

It has already been confirmed that Doug Jones will be back in the fourth season. After all, he was one of the people who confirmed Discovery Season 4 will begin production this year.

Saru made a surprising yet understandable decision in the Season 3 finale to step down as Captain of the Discovery. In That Hope Is You, Part 2, he chose to stay with Su'Kal to help him adjust to the Kelpien's new life on Kaminar.

Although it has been confirmed that Saru will reunite with the Discovery crew after heading for Kaminar, it is highly unlikely that he will be the ship's captain again soon. On the other hand, Jones has teased on Saru's other options in Season 4.

Jones had suggested during the Ready Roominterview that his character could become "Ambassador Saru for Kaminar to the Federation." It's an awesome possibility for the character and a great way to move forward in the series.
