There is little doubt that people are currently excited about Star Trek: Discovery Season 4. But what are the chances that we will still be getting the show's other spin-off? Alex Kurtzman has just shared a hopeful update on the planned Section 31 series.
In the final episode of Discovery Season 2, Section 31 showed up to recruit Ash Tyler (Shazad Latif). Ash isn't the only one who could work for the organization as Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) could join him as well.
Unfortunately, there haven't been any updates on the exciting new show. Nevertheless, Kurtzman insists that they are still working on the planned series, confirming that they have read a couple of scripts. Not surprisingly, the Star Trek executive producer pointed out that COVID-19 had affected their plans.
"We were on a very specific schedule that then got thrown completely into whack because of COVID," Kurtzman said. "Even Discovery season four started many months later than originally planned, Picard too. Everything got pushed… So we’re actually on a great track with Section 31 and I’m very optimistic about it."
This is great news considering that Trekkies were already concerned that the Section 31 series had been scrapped. Luckily, it looks like it was only pushed back for the meantime due to COVID-19. Hopefully, we'll be getting more awesome updates on the show soon.
Latif had previously spoken about the project and he confirmed that it all came down to everyone's schedule. Although the former Discovery star didn't drop names, it was clear that he was referring to Yeoh's busy schedule.
Star Trek's Section 31 spin-off series has not yet been given an official production start date or a release date. However, there is a possibility that an announcement will be made before the end of the year. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
