Square Enix Denies Being for Sale

There is little doubt that people were surprised when reports suggested that Square Enix is being sold. However, it looks like the company isn't actually for sale. Square Enix has just issued a statement denying previous reports about selling the company or any part of its business.

Bloomberg Japan had previously reported that there are "several potential buyers" who are interested in Square Enix. Although the report pointed out that it is not clear whether the interest is on the company's gaming sector only or on the company as a whole, it was suggested that the buyers were ready to make the purchase.

So is Square Enix actually for sale? Interestingly, the company has issued a statement denying Bloomberg Japan's report.

"Bloomberg has reported today that there is interest from several buyers to acquire Square Enix. However, this report is not based on any announcement by SQUARE ENIX HOLDINGS CO., LTD," the statement read. "We do not consider selling off the company or any part of its businesses, nor have we received an offer from any third party to acquire the company or any part of its businesses."

It's interesting to note that Square Enix is currently one of the biggest companies globally, thanks to its digital entertainment business. With the success of the Final Fantasy VII Remake, which was released last year, the company's digital entertainment business accounted for roughly 72% of its total sales in 2020.

Bloomberg's report did not reveal their sources who shared the information about the potential buyers. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
