One of the best things about Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was the awesome cameo of the late Stan Lee. However, it looks like the comic book legend was already struggling while he recorded the brief yet touching scene. Into The Spider-Verse director Peter Ramsey has just revealed that Lee was already having trouble seeing when they met to shoot the scene.
Ramsey recently spoke to Comic Book Movie where he admitted that he was involved with Lee's cameo in the animated film. Not surprisingly, the filmmaker was thrilled about meeting the man who co-created Spider-Man.
"We went to Stan's office to record them. I can't remember when in the year it was, but it was relatively late in making the movie. Yeah, it was really wild," Ramsey said. "I mean, Stan Lee, that was the first time I had never met him. So that was like, Oh my God, I can't believe it's Stan, the Man! This is great."
Ramsey continued by praising the late comic book icon. "It was close enough to the end for him that he was having real trouble seeing. So, that was kind of difficult. But, he was still up and around," he said. "And he was talking and shaking hands. It was just a joy. He was a sweetheart."
Although Lee's eyesight was already deteriorating, that didn't stop him from recording one of the most memorable cameos in a Marvel film.
Lee passed away on November 12, 2018. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse would hit theaters a little over a month later on December 14.
